In Through The Narrow Gate – Our 2019 Play

By Blog, Events No Comments

Rocha Firme Academy, is an international Christian school that majors in student centered quality education and this year, on the 29th of November, we were honoured to present our end of year play entitled ‘In Through The Narrow Gate´.
This is a play that is based on some of the remarkable real life events, recorded in the book of Genesis, about Joseph´s experience as an regular human being on earth. In order, for Joseph to get to success for the service of humanity, he had to first serve the One True God who enabled him to rescue nations, including his own, from hunger.

Furthermore, in serving God to serve humanity, Joseph suffered and, in this instance, that suffering is referred to as the ´Narrow Gate´. This marks the moral of the story.

Joseph´s family struggled with lack of understanding concerning this matter but in the end they understood the purpose of God in Joseph´s life. In Matthew 7:13-14, Jesus said “13 Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

If Joseph had chosen a wide gate thereby escaping the challenges and struggles and forsaking His God, there would be no hope, prosperity or life in the land.

It is our hope that through this play RFA´s vision is realising, the mission being fulfilled, and the values instilled in our children. The principal objective of this exercise was that children´s learning is made practical whilst being realistic, enjoyable yet relevant, engaging yet developmental. This is quality pedagogy that specifically aims at quality education.

Scientific research shows that singing, listening to songs, reciting poetry and performing the art of theatre, are techniques that are highly beneficial for language learning, as they are suitable for teaching pronunciation, topic introduction, social development and perception, as well as training of principles. So even on the night of the play learning was the center of everything. The one thing that made that night exquisite was that the story was told by children, who are not professional actors but rather professional children. Moreover, the tireless effort of the teachers and operational staff in making this play a reality was impeccable.

At the end of the night the children also received awards.

Pep talk from a Basketball superstar! – Inelcio Chire visits Rocha Firme Academy

As our own future champions waited in anticipation for the day when the Mozambican born basketball giant would set foot on our premises, questions were consistently fired at the teachers about what he is going to show them, what exactly he would do and how they should respond. Well, that fateful day came and it was on the 12thof June.

One could tell in the way that the day began that it was going to be a special day for the children. There was no paparazzi frenzy, but there was something in the air when the international star arrived on the scene. Mr. Inelcio Chire, who is currently playing the game in the Republic of Angola, is gladly lending his spectacular skills to Inter Clube de Luanda, just as he was glad to lend some advice to the children that day. Being 2.01 metres tall was not easy for the children to look up at his face from up close and so he bowed to give them some handshakes, high fives and some straight-up fist bumps.

Three words summed up the pep talk – Practise, Persist & Focus!

Together with the star they went along and shot some hoops through his arms shaped like the rim of a basket. There was a lot of jumping, running, dribbling with the children and only one slam dunk by you know who!

The international star was then cheerfully and honourably gifted with a Rocha Firme Academy, customized and top-grade, hat.

Lastly, it would not have been extra special without an autograph session, photographs and selfies!
